Monday Memo

I loved the sweet testimonies I heard yesterday in Sacrament Meeting and in our Relief Society Meeting. Dear Kristen, I was moved by your sweet tears. Your tender heart reminded me of a testimony shared by a dear friend of mine. She proclaimed "I stand here today a grateful and blessed woman. Jesus Christ is our Savior and His Atonement is for all of us. All the good things in our life are made better and permanent because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Those things which aren't so good are made temporary because of the gospel of Jesus Christ."

All the good things made better, and the not so good are made temporary because of the Atonement and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Yes, it truly does bless us all, and for that I am grateful.

GOSPEL BLESSINGS
Our Father’s plan for us to be successful in this life and to return to live with Him is called the gospel of Jesus Christ, with Jesus’ Atonement at the center of that plan. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can receive eternal life if we exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, are baptized by immersion for the remission of sins, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end. “This is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ” (2 Nephi 31:21). All people have the gift of agency, which includes the freedom to accept or reject the gospel as taught by the prophets and apostles. Those who choose to obey are blessed, but those who ignore, reject, or distort the gospel do not receive God’s promised blessings. (Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Missionary Service, Lesson 1: The Message of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ)

Monday Memo

Good Morning Dear Sisters,

In yesterday's RS lesson from the Teachings of the Prophet Lorenzo Snow we talked about the importance of continuing learning and gathering wisdom and intelligence. ThePursuit of Excellence is a Relief Society program similar to the Young Women's Personal Progress. As you work on your goals for this new year, the Pursuit of Excellence is a great resource and plan for personal progress and development.

RS MONTHLY MEETING - YOUR LIFE IS A STORY
We will continue with our Family History theme for our February 6 RS Meeting. At our meeting in January, Sister RoseMarie Morrell gave good ideas and advice to get us started in writing our stories. We participated in a little exercise of brainstorming and then putting that list in story form. It was surprising how the cobwebs and dust lifted and the writing flowed!

We have been challenged to write for 1 hour each week. If you need a little prompting to bring those memories to the surface again - try this one - How did you wear your hair as a child? Maybe you liked the way it looked or hated it. Was it short? or long? What color was your hair? Did you ever cut it yourself and what was the result?

You could also work on your Personal Timeline. I attached a simple template to get you started - Just enter the year you were born (where it now says 1961), the rest of the following years should automatically correct - then add the rest of your personal info, local, national, and international data! Voila! It's a great start!

GOSPEL BLESSINGS
The restored gospel blesses and helps husbands and wives, parents and children as they strive to develop stronger relationships and spiritual strength in their families. These blessings are available now and in eternity. The gospel of Jesus Christ provides help with current concerns and challenges. (Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Missionary Service, Lesson 1: The Message of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ)

Aunt Thea's Apple Pie Filling

4 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup cornstarch
1 tsp salt
10 cups water

Bring water to a boil. Mix dry ingredients together, add to the boiling water. Cook until thick.
Peel, core, and slice apples. Fill bottle 1/2 full with apples. Pour in 1 cup of thick sauce. Fill the rest of the bottle with apples, leaving 1" headspace. Add 1 more cup of mixture to the bottle. Remove air bubbles. Wipe rims, place lids.....

Process for 20 minutes in hot water bath, or pressure can at 5 lbs for 8 minutes.

(other notes from previous batches - 1 grocery bag full of apples and 1X recipe yield: 7 quarts of filling. Last week's batch - huge bowlful of sliced apples, 1 1/2X recipe = 13 1/2 quarts of filling - no rhyme or reason here!)
