Monday Memo - March 25-30

Dear Sisters,

I loved our lesson yesterday on being "anxiously engaged." I especially love the way you do serve, and do it with love, and without even a sign-up list. There is evidence all around our neighborhood of your love for each other. It is a blessing to live among you.

Some of your comments that stuck with me and inspired me:
  • It's the little things - a smile, a hug, a text
  • Time to stop and listen and I come away better
  • Fed spiritually and learned "not to fear, the Lord will take care of my needs"
Visiting teaching is another way we can be anxiously engaged by giving us the opportunity to watch over, strengthen, and teach each other. A visiting teacher shows her love by prayerfully considering each sister she is called to serve.
May you all be blessed this week as you follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ, to love and serve in His behalf.

Much love,
jNae

MICHELLE LEWIS SURGERY
Michelle is having both knees replaced on Friday, March 29. Her daughter-in-law, Bonnie, is coming this week to help her for a week. Michelle should be out of the hospital and home to continue recovery on Tuesday, April 2.

The Relief Society (what a perfect name for this organization!) will provide meals after Bonnie leaves so that Michelle may continue to recover and mend. You may sign up on the Michelle Lewis Family Meal Google Doc.

ATTENTIONAll YW and Mothers of YW going to camp this summer!

Sister Doxey needs a photo of each YW standing in a place that is holy to them. It can be a quick snap shot of the girls anywhere they choose... it could be their bedroom, their house, church, the temple, the mountains, the beach, school, ANYWHERE they feel the spirit. Please email the photos to Sis. Doxey at Lesliedoxey@Hotmail.com by March 31st. The girls have known about this for a few weeks and we haven't received any photos... so we're asking for the help of you Moms! :) If you already have a hard copy of a photo that you want to use you can just give it to Sis Doxey (no need to scan it)
Thank you!

Also some camp dates to remember as you're planning your summer:

4th year hike overnighter:  June 4-5
6th year overnighter:  June 6-7
Girls Camp:   June 17-21

Parents and leaders have a responsibility to help individuals and families strengthen their faith, testimony, and conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. To assist in this effort, a worldwide leadership training DVD is available in the church library, or available online at www.leadershiplibrary.lds.org

FAVORITE THINGS
NOTE THE DATE CHANGE BECAUSE OF SPRING BREAK - April 10th at 7:00 pm is our Ward RS monthly meeting for April. We will be having a "Favorite Things"night...just like Oprah used to have! (Well, perhaps on a slightly smaller scale than hers...but definitely will still be fun and informative, and exciting because YOU might even get treats or win a prize!) You won't want to miss this fun night! Here's how it works:
  • We all know your favorite things are really your family and the gospel...but, we're talking about your other favorite things...you know; that mascara that never smudges, or your grandma's amazing oatmeal cookies, or the auto mechanic who is honest and does a great job! We want to hear about those kinds of favorite things!
  • Come prepared to "show and tell" about one of your favorite things.
  • If you'd like, you can bring a sample to share. This is how you can share: let's say, you want to tell everybody about that honest auto mechanic. Well, maybe you could just print out his contact info on little pieces of paper and give everyone a copy, or ask him to give you a bunch of his business cards. Or, you want to share your grandma's cookies with us; how about making a batch and letting each sister have a cookie, and make copies of the recipe for us! What about that fabulous mascara? Bring a sample of it so the sisters can see it...and if you want (but don't have to) you could even donate the mascara to our raffle drawing and one lucky sister will win it at the end of the evening! Maybe your favorite thing is how you can cut open and slice an avocado without getting it all mushy...well, don't just tell us about it...gives us a demonstration!!!  Have we got you thinking now???? :-) It's going to be a great night!
FRUIT TREE PRUNING DEMO

HEAVENLY FATHER REVEALS HIS GOSPEL IN EVERY DISPENSATION
One important way that God shows His love for us is by calling prophets, who are given the priesthood—the power and authority given to man to act in God’s name for the salvation of His children. Prophets learn the gospel of Jesus Christ by revelation. They in turn teach the gospel to others and testify of Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer. The teachings of prophets are found in sacred books called scriptures.

Our Father’s plan for us to be successful in this life and to return to live with Him is called the gospel of Jesus Christ, with Jesus’ Atonement at the center of that plan. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can receive eternal life if we exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent, are baptized by immersion for the remission of sins, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end. “This is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ” (2 Nephi 31:21). All people have the gift of agency, which includes the freedom to accept or reject the gospel as taught by the prophets and apostles. Those who choose to obey are blessed, but those who ignore, reject, or distort the gospel do not receive God’s promised blessings. Monday Memo - March 4 - 10

Great lesson on the power of music in our lives. I once heard a musician tell children that music is more powerful than a drug, so you need to be careful what you listen to. Music can change your mood instantly.

I better go put on something peppy and get sweeping!

Here are some links to good talks about music.
