LOST & FOUND
A set of white binders that have the Book of Mormon Reader pictures enlarged and in plastic sheet protectors is missing. They were assembled a few years ago to help teach the Primary children. If anyone has any clues on their whereabouts please contact Janice McKay.

Aunt Thea's Apple Pie Filling

4 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup cornstarch
1 tsp salt
10 cups water

Bring water to a boil. Mix dry ingredients together, add to the boiling water. Cook until thick.
Peel, core, and slice apples. Fill bottle 1/2 full with apples. Pour in 1 cup of thick sauce. Fill the rest of the bottle with apples, leaving 1" headspace. Add 1 more cup of mixture to the bottle. Remove air bubbles. Wipe rims, place lids.....

Process for 20 minutes in hot water bath, or pressure can at 5 lbs for 8 minutes.

(other notes from previous batches - 1 grocery bag full of apples and 1X recipe yield: 7 quarts of filling. Last week's batch - huge bowlful of sliced apples, 1 1/2X recipe = 13 1/2 quarts of filling - no rhyme or reason here!)

Loving Yourself

"Love can heal so many things.  If our bodies are sick, we can focus our love on that part of us. Because love begins at home, and our bodies are the homes to our spirits, we need to begin by loving ourselves."

Thursday, November 8, 2012

From Sunday's lesson - quotes I love by Elder Russell M. Nelson

  • A worthy woman personifies the truly noble and worthwhile attributes of life. A faithful woman can become a devoted daughter of God - more concerned with being righteous than with being selfish, more anxious to exercise compassion than to exercise dominion, more committed to integrity than to notoriety  And she knows of her own infinite worth.
  • Her self-esteem cannot be based on physical features, possession or lack of a particular talent, or comparative quantities of anything. Her self-esteem is earned by individual righteousness and a close relationship with God. Her outward glow is generated by goodness within. And her patience is much more apparent than any imperfection.
  • The attributes by which we shall be judged one day are all spiritual. These include love, virtue, integrity, compassion, and service to others. Your spirit, coupled with and housed in your body, is able to develop and manifest these attributes in ways that are vital to your eternal progression.

OCTOBER VISITING TEACHING MESSAGE
Honoring Our Covenants - Visiting teaching is an expression of our discipleship and a way to honor our covenants as we serve and strengthen one another.
Dear Sisters, I loved President Hinckley’s encouragement to “try a little harder to be a little better.” That thought can certainly apply to our visiting teaching. My heart is touched and my eyes get a little wet when I hear about the beautiful service you provide to many of the sisters in our ward. And, sometimes my heart aches when I review the visiting teaching report and see lists of sisters that haven't had a visit, and some for multiple months.

The responsibilities of a visiting teacher are to teach and to minister. Delivering a lesson each month is teaching, but not always ministering. Sometimes instead of a visit, a sister needs a flower, a note, or a phone call.

When we “minister” our visiting teaching is never “done,” and that’s ok. Find a way to report about the contact and the spiritual and temporal well-being of the sisters. It can be done at the church. It can be done at their home. But there is no substitute for the personal contact – this is where you show you care.
We don’t get to choose our partner, or whom we visit and schedules don’t always mesh. Visiting teachers need to work together to find inspired ways to work together to watch over their sisters. Maybe it is one of you visiting and another one doing something else.

Visiting teaching is one of the things we do with faith. We show that we believe in Christ and His gospel and in His way by doing this one thing that gives us the chance to behave as He behaved and do as He did.

This month it is my prayer that we will “try a little harder to be a little better.”

SCHOLARSHIP WORKSHOP
Elder and Sister Fisher, of the American Fork Employment Resource Center, will do a Scholarship Presentation at our stake center on Thursday, October 25th , at 7:00 PM.  Youth twelve and older, with a parent, are invited, plus anyone interested.  They bring a 6-page handout.  There are millions of dollars available in scholarships each year.  Learn how to qualify and get your share.

STAKE CENTER CONSTRUCTION
The construction on the Stake Center is now well under way.  Last week the crews saw cut and took out the cement in the west hall from the relief society room to the foyer and took the cement out in the primary room.   They will try to keep one set of bathrooms open during the construction in the evenings.

The east side of the building should be open during the construction.  This includes everything from the library north, the cultural hall, chapel and stake offices.  They will also put plywood over the cut out area on the west side giving access to the bishop offices during the evening hours.  It would be best if we tried to limit use during the day while the construction crews are working due to the noise and dust.

We will keep you updated as construction continues.   Completion date is still scheduled for October 13th.

SISTER NUBIA RIBEIRO
is a new sister in our ward, living in Marta Valdizan's basement apartment.

  • She is in need of a chest of drawers. If you have a spare one you can let go, please let me know, or contact her.
  • Feel free to contact her at nubianreal@hotmail.com if you want more information about her schedule and availability.

Stay within the Lines

TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.....
When finding a solution or when prayers are needed, it is nice to know we have some friends on our side. Sister Lisa Harris is seeking a solution to the dilemma of needing to sell her home due to part of the agreement made in her divorce. At this time she only qualifies to be able to purchase the home from Brent, but not for the extra cash needed to buy out his share of the equity. This also means losing the studio she built where she teaches and records. This studio will be her major source of income after alimony runs out in January, and also serves as Hailey's source of employment and income. Lisa is praying for a miracle that perhaps there may be a buyer out there who would like a rental property and she can rent it from them until she can qualify to buy it next year, OR, maybe we could just find her one of those "stargazing jackets" we heard about at regional conference ;-)
